I'm making $50 per day, minimum of 12 hour days. But it's good experience, and I'm making contacts, so it's worth it. Plus I'm getting IMDB credit. The movie has Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls, Saw IV and V), Alexandra Paul (Baywatch, too much other stuff to list) and Zelda Williams (Robin Williams' daughter).

In addition to that, I was just hired as 1st Camera for a feature called Walk-ins Welcome (http://www.walkinswelcomethemovie.com/), which starts shooting in October. I find it funny that it's easier to get a job in production than it is to get one as a cashier, but it's what I'm trained and qualified for so I suppose it makes sense. My goal is to be able to do enough freelance work to keep the bills paid. But now that my computer is working and I can start working on Treasures for Heaven again, I should be set for at least 2 months. Things are working out!

Poet's Path

Today I met with Boulder poet Jim Cohn, to discuss a collaborative project, in which I would direct and edit a video track for a recording of his poetry using found footage and visual effects. It's an exciting prospect: anything goes.

Now I have a two-week deadline on a 5 minute example reel to see if we're on the same page with this project. That is September 12, which is the same day as the first of two workshops for the Boulder Shootout 48 hour film contest. I'm tentatively going to be crewing on a project for that, which will be good contacts. I'm about to go from having no schedule whatsoever to being busy all the time, and I don't even have a steady job yet. The weather here is fantastic, and the locals say that it's bad compared to how it normally is. I think that's a good sign.

Today I start my internship at Denver Open Media. I will be a production intern, which apparently means I will spend all of my time editing. Hopefully I can turn that in to a job at some point.

Third, I re-cut Old Scratch. Mostly tightening the first and last scenes, but I also played around with the middle a bit for more clarity. This is easily my best work so far and I feel it is a great jumping off point for the future. We shot the bulk of the movie on my new Panasonic DVX100B, which I am extremely excited about having. The liquor store scene was shot on Fourth of July Weekend, so we had to get out of there as fast as possible. To further complicated things, our actor Frederick could only give us 45 minutes of his time, AND he had his newborn baby with him. We ran a 3-camera setup while my producer Roney tried to keep the baby quiet during the takes. Unfortunately the other two cameras don't match the quality of the main cam, but what can you do? Despite that hangup, everything else went beautifully, and everybody involved did a fantastic job.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Samuel Doran.
